I discovered this thought provoking short slideshow (1 minute) about what you can learn from children and what it means to live in the now. It's all about being happy about the small things, being happy now.

Go to The Happiness Project for 10 tips for being happier.

“What a wonderful life I’ve had!
I only wish I’d realized it sooner.”
-- Colette

“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.”

This made me cry! Until I had our daughter I didn't realize how precious each little moment was, and how poignant being a parent could be. Thanks for sharing!

@Bri: having kids makes you become a big crybaby :-) It's the greatest and toughest job in the world. And it's worth every moment. Check out my boys to see what's ahead of you: http://mindfullittlemen.blogspot.com/

I love the quote about just needing something to be enthusiastic about. I felt as if you posted this quote just for me. Thanks!

You find the most delightful things to share with us. Thank you! I love the quote about missing a wonderful life- we all do that from time to time. Let us be happy right now, it is all we really have.

@ Stacey: as long as you have something you like doing, life should be great. If you don't enjoy it anymore, you should head for the door. If all people took this at heart the world would be a happier place.

@ Jay: it's all happening today and it's all in the little things: A smile, a touch, a word, a hug: Sure the big promotion is nice, and having a new car as well. But deep down that is not where happiness grows.

Oh Mimi, I'm not sure what to say. This video touched me deeply. And the part that pulled at me - was about holding hands and that might be ending soon. I'm at the cusp. I have one child who still holds my hand, and it's something I cherish very much, now knowing that the older kids don't do this anymore.

I can't thank you enough for sharing this - it's a perspective I can't be reminded of enough.

@ Lance: my kids are still small so there's lots of holding hands and hugging and smooches. Time flies and I know that the infant days of breast nuzzling (and sleepless nights for that matter!) are over. No more carrying little Rohan around as he walks and wants to on his own now. And so it goes. But with every thing they stop doing, they also start doing a new thing. Like having a real conversation with you, asking you for advice, hating you :-) It's a rollercoaster ride.

Hi Mimi
I was sent your way by Lance as I have posted something similar about not wasting the time you have with your children and that video was just lovely. Really touching and really thought provoking and if it helps just a handful of people reasses or stop and take stock then it will have been worth posting.
