Don't underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can't hear, and not bothering - Winnie the Pooh

LISTENING
Lying on the couch
in a silent, darkened living room
my body fights the flu
Trying to sleep
dozing off into a subconscious state
my mind seeking rest
Brain switched off
children taken care of by the grandparents
the house is silent
But I hear something
birds singing joyfully outside
I imagine the sun
A car passes on the road
a string of sound from left to right
I cannot see, but it is there
The computer buzzes
the wind brushes through the hedge
the wooden roof aches
It is amazing
the sounds you hear when you close your eyes
and start really listening

It is! Our world vibrates with life, with activity.
@ Sandy: Thanks for the prompt. I'll be back for inspiration.
It is indeed amazing. Without sound there would be no life --- listening is about living. I enjoyed this.
It's strange how we live without listening and once tuned in how much there is to hear... I love 'the wooden roof aches' - a delightful phrase.
Yes, when we listen, there is so much to hear! wonderful poem.
@ Amias: Thanks for visiting and glad you enjoyed it. Come back anytime.
@ Tumblewords: yup, the wooden roof ached despite the fact that it's new. Taught me that not only old things talk - if you listen.
@ Tammie Lee: Thank you Tammie. Glad you liked it.
